Progress Ranch Treatment Services for Children

Progress Ranch is a nonprofit public benefit 501(c)(3) agency. We are licensed by the State of California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division as an STRTP provider.

We offer intensive treatment programs in residential homes that provide mental health services to boys ages 6 through 13. Counties and Private Health Plans refer boys who need short term residential treatment because of significant behavioral challenges.

We are located in the welcoming community of Davis where boys live in comfortable, safe, family-style homes. Boys may stay with us up to 6 months or as-needed. During this time, we offer a unique environment that focuses on age-appropriate activities, healing, and developing healthy trusting relationships and skills. 

Our goal is for each boy to be able to experience permanency and thrive with the natural supports in their foster, adoptive, or birth family community. Families are encouranged to learn and grow alongside their children.

Summary

A Mental Health Worker is responsible for the supervision, protection, and care of children both individually and in group settings. This may include assistance in addressing individual needs, treatment plan support, house cleaning, meal preparation, providing transportation, dispensing medication, documentation, communication with internal and external treatment team members and community partners, and other duties as assigned. Proper documentation, including both digital and paper as needed, is required. In addition, you will commit to completing all required training sessions, both in-person and online, as assigned, and attending team meetings. It is also imperative that at all times you follow agency and Title 22 Community Care Licensing standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities for these roles include but are not limited to the following:  

MHW I & II

• Supervision, protection, and therapeutic support for clients to support their behavioral and mental health needs. This occasionally includes physical safety holds (all staff become CPI certified through Progress Ranch).
• Recognition that behaviors are caused by trauma. Our children generally do not have developmental delays.
• Assisting clients in working with a group and in handling individual challenges.
• Setting limits for behavior including implementing children's treatment plan and needs and services plan.
• Daily documentation of children's plan implementation, behaviors, and interventions/treatment.
• Notation of progress in clients; identification of the possible need for professional services; and communication of such findings to House Managers and Case Manager.
• Provide training to the children in all aspects of life including hygiene, work habits, activities, meals, peer, and adult relationships by providing guidance and appropriate role modeling.
• Complete meal preparations, food storage and handling, and related record keeping as required by Title 22 Community Care Licensing Regulations.
• Keeping hygiene and cleanliness standards of the home, as per Title 22 licensing regulations.
• Following agency and Title 22 Community Care Licensing Standards regarding medication dispensing and logging usage along with daily logging observations of any side effects and behaviors related to medication management.
• Following agency and Title 22 Community Care Licensing Standards regarding record keeping for all medical and dental appointments.
• Interacting with school personnel and individuals from the community, establishing good public relations.
• Planning, scheduling and involvement in activities and group functions.
• Mandatory attendance at staff meetings and agency training as required by Title 22 Community Care Licensing Standards.

Documentation

• Document and track behaviors through written reports; recording documentation in digital formats as assigned by leadership.
  • This includes documentation in multiple Electronic Health Records (EHRs), such as AVATAR and SmartHealth, and may include other programs based on the individual County needs.
  • MHWs are expected to enter notes in a timely fashion, as well as issue Service Verification Forms for each activity performed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Note regarding MHW II – The MHW II is a position given to persons who have at least two years experience in a mental health setting AND an exemplary performance review. This position performs the same duties as a MHW I, but may be called upon to be a Trainer for new hires and TCWs.

Mental Health Worker I

• Education & Experience: Associates Degree in a related field and at least 1 year of full time equivalent experience working directly with children and youth in a mental health setting.
• Certifications: Ability to pass physical exam, TB Test Screening, and background checks. Ability to pass First Aid/CPR, and CPI certifications.
• Must have a valid California Driver’s License and no DUIs within the past 4 years.
• Other Skills and Abilities: Proficiency in MS Office

Mental Health Worker II

• In Addition to the above requirements, this person must have at least 2 years of experience working in a mental health setting working directly with children and youth.
• If promoting into this position, must have an exemplary performance review.

Working conditions

This position will have a mixture of environments including a residential home and outdoor parks. Environments may be affected by weather.

Physical requirements

This position may require that you perform physical holds of clients. Ability to contribute to general cleaning and maintenance of a home.
