Job Description

The M.S. in Biotechnology Program seeks a Teaching Assistant for assigned onsite course(s) during the Fall 2022/Spring 2023 term, including, but limited toAS.410.601 Biochemistry, AS.410.602 Molecular Biology, and AS.410.603 Advanced Cell Biology. The TA is responsible for facilitating communication between and providing course support to students and faculty. 

 

*Please note this is NOT a full-time opportunity.  Preference will be given to JHU Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) students who have previously completed the course for which they will be assigned.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Respond to student inquiries through TA office hours, synchronous sessions with the instructor, or other forms of communication.
  • Facilitate and support classroom interactions, including, but not limited to, small group work and breakout sessions.
  • Assist with the grading of student assignments by evaluating student work and facilitating discussion to promote student engagement.
  • Promote communication between faculty and students by liaising with faculty when there is a problem, concern, or need for clarification on course material.
  • Provide targeted participant support by conducting regularly scheduled office hours up to 2 hours per week.
  • Communicate regularly with the course faculty and engages in planning conversations.
  • OPTIONAL: Attend every course session (will vary by faculty member).

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • High level of comfort with technology and the course format.
  • Strong knowledge of the content area for specific courses.



Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Some experience as a graduate student in the related area of support.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in process (at least 12 credits completed).

Starting Salary Range: $19.25 - $26.50/Hr (Commensurate with experience)
Employee group: Casual / On Call 
Schedule: 10.0 Hrs/ Monday - Sunday

30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
