The Independent Living Specialist (ILS) Coordinator should be a person who is passionate in helping people, organized, possess excellent communication skills both verbally and written, and takes pride in setting and reaching goals. Relationship building is a MUST.
This position is a PT or FT (MIN 24 hours plus per week) field position ranging from $17 - $20 per hour DOE. As an ILS Coordinator, you will self-manage and self-schedule your work hours ranging from Mon - Friday anywhere from 8am - 8pm. Saturdays are optional. The ILS Coordinator will need a dependable vehicle with proof of full coverage insurance and a mobile phone for business communication purposes. The ILS Coordinator will be traveling to clients' homes and/or natural environments such as the library, parks, shopping malls, Starbucks, etc to provide direct training/mentor/coaching support to intellectually disabled clients. Travel can take place primarily in Sacramento and potential Sutter Counties. Mileage reimbursement is provided. Various life functional skills will be taught to clients to create independence. ILS Coordinator DO NOT provide self-care…we only teach. ILS Services are primarily delivered in a 1:1 setting. However, it’s possible that the ILS Coordinator may work in a 1:2 or 1:3 group setting.
Role and Responsibility:
Set goals, mentor, train, coach and consult intellectually disabled clients who are high functioning to maintain a self-sustaining, independent living situation in the community
Implement program curriculum, assess and develop goals to assist clients to improve their independence
Develop solutions and problem solve
Provide daily reporting, track progress, assess pre/post data to improve goals
Provide instruction and support in essential activities such as cooking, cleaning, shopping, meal planning, money management and employment support
Provide structure, time management and organization skills with cleaning, personal health and hygiene, healthy eating, etc.
Schedule and plan recreational activities and goals
Teach participants how to plan, prep and utilize public transportation if necessary
Teach and support participants how to take advantage of any and all community resources to include medical, dental, and psychiatric resources
Teach the importance of community resources such as police emergency help, medication monitoring, and home and community safety
Work with other staff to create a network consisting of necessary resources to support consumers in their pursuit of independent living
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Criminal background clearance required
CPR and First Aid certified (Noncertified, we will certify you)
TB testing required
Highschool diploma
Valid DL and proof of full coverage insurance
Must own or have access to dependable vehicle to travel throughout Sac County and/or Sutter County
Access to mobile phone for reporting communication purposes
Working knowledge of Google, database operations, internet, and email
Self-starter with the ability to organize tasks and manage time effectively
Must have excellent interactive skills and ability to motivate others
Requires excellent written and communication skills
Ability to work with management and staff to achieve goals of the organization
Ability to work independently, one-on-one or in a group setting to provide support with the ongoing daily operations
