Denver Transit Operators, (DTO) is a privately held company that has a 29-year contract with RTD to operate and maintain the new commuter rail system within the Greater Denver Metro area. We currently have opportunities to hire Train Operators and are seeking committed individuals who can successfully complete our 2-month training program to earn the Federal licensure to operate our commuter trains.
What Will You Do?
In this position you will be responsible for operating commuter trains and yard services in accordance with Federal regulations and company rules & instructions. Perform pre-trip inspections and tests to meet pre-departure standards. Ensuring trains are on time to avoid passenger delays. Monitoring track conditions, signals, displays, radio and intercom communications. Making train announcements regarding station arrivals or delays, including responding to any emergencies, assisting with the evacuation of passengers during emergencies. Coordinate closely with train staff and security personnel to ensure the safety of all train users. Complete reports and documentation as required, as well as, all other duties as assigned.
This is a safety sensitive position subject to the rules & regulations of the Federal Railroad Administration and their Drug & Alcohol policy.
What Will You learn?
Our Train Operators play an important part in keeping our locomotives on the move. We will teach you the dynamic workings of our trains, as well as the rules and regulations that must be followed to operator our trains
What You Need to Bring: (Position Requirements)
Must be at least 21 years old.
Ability to work in the US for any employer without sponsorship & provide appropriate documentation.
Must be able to pass a background and drug & alcohol test which includes Marijuana use.
Must be able to pass a Physical & Physical Abilities evaluation, hearing and vision tests.
Must have a valid US driver license & clean driving record. (You will be driving company vehicles.)
Ability to read and comprehend technical written material such as operator’s manuals, air brake and train handling manuals, electrical operation instructions and safety and operating rule books.
Ability to accurately perform multiple and sometimes unrelated tasks at the same or within a very short period of time.
Ability to memorize large quantities of information that are used in daily decision making to operate trains.
Ability to work any shift, holidays or weekends as needed.
Must pass the required on the job training and written examinations to become a federally licensed Train Operator. Recertification is required every 3 years.
Ability to take direction and follow company and railroad safety guidelines.
Ability to adhere to strict safety protocols & guidelines at all times.
Other duties may be required as assigned
Physical Requirements:
Candidates can expect to be in a cab for much of their shift you may be required to perform the following physical activities.
Climb ladders, Balance, Squat, Kneel and Crouch.
Walking outside and inside.
Pay:
Our Repair Technicians can expect to earn an hourly wage between $20.99 - $27.05 depending on experience, education & training. Your performance & pay are reviewed and increases possible after successful completion 1-year of service and there after annually.

Training You Can Expect:
As a Train Operator, you will receive formal classroom and hands-on training as part of an 8-10-week formal training program. After this period, you will have earned your Federal licensure to operate our commuter trains. You will learn primarily from our Rules Trainer as well as veteran Train Operators and Supervisors
