Job Title: Transporter

Reports To: Transportation Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

 

Summary Drives company vehicle to transport individuals with intellectual disabilities between their residences and Gateway and within the community, as assigned.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Transports individuals with intellectual disabilities to and from Gateway and their residences in a safe manner.

 

Safely transports individuals to and from Gateway for medical appointments and other appointments as needed during program hours.

 

Ensures that individuals sign in and out when they are transported.

 

Serves as an escort for individuals being transported when called upon to do so.

 

Complete all necessary documentation including but not limited to route sheets, fuel logs and vehicle inspection forms.

 

Completes all assigned Limosys work and any other duties assigned on electronic routing platforms.

 

Maintain the cleanliness and safety of each vehicle.

 

Follows the hand-to-hand drop off policy where applicable.

 

Follows all GCC Driving Protocols and NYS Driving Laws.

 

Ensures safety of all individuals and staff during transport.

Reports to the assigned van and route on time.

Remains awake and alert throughout entire transport; Remains aware of surroundings outside of and inside the vehicle at all times and provides adequate supervision to those traveling on the route; Takes steps to remove distractions so that driver can hear and see what is happening in the vehicle; Ensures individuals in the vehicle are not subject to harm and reports any behavior that is contrary to the Justice Center Code of Conduct.

 

Follows all OPWDD and GCC Vehicle and Transportation Protocols.

 

Drives in a defensive manner, taking all necessary precautions to avoid accidents.

 

Ensures that Driver’s License remains in good standing, with no major violations.

 

Reports all incidents, accidents or allegations related to Individuals to Supervisor immediately upon discovery and follows Justice Center rules and regulations.

 

Compose written statements regarding incidents, accidents and/or allegations as instructed by the respective Supervisor.

 

Report any traffic and/or parking violations to Supervisor immediately upon discovery.

 

Prior to any departure, perform a visual inspection of the vehicle being utilized for safety, cleanliness and fuel level.

 

Following every run, performs an inspection of the exterior and interior of the vehicle and reports any issues to supervisor.

 

Fuels up vehicles as needed; follows GCC policies and procedures with regards to fueling.

 

Does not use any GCC vehicle or gas card for personal use without approval from a supervisor in writing.

 

Follows the assigned route and order of stops, as assigned by supervisor; immediately notifies supervisor upon experiencing delays of any kind that will impact arrival times.

 

Reports any vehicular malfunctioning or damage to Supervisor immediately upon discovery.

 

Ensures that there is a camera in the vehicle prior to departure and notifies a supervisor if there appears to be issues with the camera.

 

Ensures that they have a working, charged cellphone prior to every run; Contacts the designated guardian(s) of individuals prior to pick-up and drop-off and ensures that the guardian is present and received the individual upon drop-off.

 

Ensures that each vehicle has an assigned safety kit and a laminated condition codes document.

 

Assists with loading/unloading of vans, as assigned; follows provided seating charts accounting for behavioral/medical needs of individuals on route.

 

Perform any other agency duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor(s) and/or the General Manager.

Experience Required                                                                    

Minimum of three (3) years professional driving experience

 

Driver’s License Requirement

Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) with P (Passenger) Endorsement;

S (School Bus) Endorsement preferred.

 

Language Skills                                                                

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations clients, supervisors, and other employees of the organization.

 

Reasoning Ability                                                           

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
