Job Summary:

The Make-Ready Engineer creates, facilitates, coordinates, and tracks solutions on how to place fiber more efficiently. Acts as a liaison for company and joint use activities and documents necessary to carry out make-ready construction activities and subsequent licensing. This role manages and proactively works to establish relationships with pole owners and related contractors. Activities will include joint use application, oversight of make ready engineering and construction activities, participation in joint use ride outs, and as-built verification.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Works in partnership with OSP Engineers and Pre-Construction team on all facets of joint use application processing for fiber installations.
  • Completes purchase requisitions for applications, licensing, and make-ready work for pole attachment planning in all markets.
  • Determine path and design for deployment of new fiber assets.
  • Reviews and may possibly dispute Make-Ready E-5 plans from contractors.
  • Submit applications within New Markets.
  • Conduct field surveys and review field collected data from technicians and vendors.
  • Forecasts upcoming work to contract partners as well as the engineering and construction teams at Greenlight Networks.
  • Identifies barriers and creates solutions to timely completion of make ready work and license approval, keeping relevant parties informed, and troubleshooting resolutions to decrease delays and/or expenses.
  • Assists with process & data management for joint use related activities.
  • Attend meetings and site surveys with joint pole/structure owner(s) and related 3rd party agencies/contractors.
  • Verify completed construction and review as-builts.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of joint use application process.
  • Knowledge of current fiber engineering and construction best practices.
  • Ability to read, create, and interpret technical documents, fiber maps and as-built drawings, and legal documents related to easements and rights of way.
  • Ability to utilize GIS/CAD and fiber design tools such as Vetro, ArcGIS, OSP Insight, 3-GIS or Bentley Fiber.
  • Exposure to GIS systems such as ESRI, Google Earth, Vetro, 3GIS, QGIS, or others.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office products, especially Excel (xlookup, pivot tables, etc.).
  • Ability to compare purchase orders and invoices to validate charges.
  • Understanding of telecommunications and electric utility jargon.
  • Effective time management and organization skills to manage dozens of simultaneous projects.
  • Excellence in oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain working relationships with outside entities for the purpose of executing Greenlight Network’s business needs.
  • Demonstrate collaboration skills internal and external parties to achieve company goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of pole attachment design including NESC requirements is a plus.

 

Educaton and Experience:

  • Ideally three years or more  work experience managing telecommunications projects.
  • 12 months experience in joint use application processing and/or telecommunications construction.
  • Proven experience managing budgets.
  • Minimum of  3 years’ experience designing fiber optic networks, especially GPON FTTH deployments.
  • A four-year degree in electrical or civil engineering a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license.

 

Compensation:

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual salary offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The salary range for this role is between  $55,000 – $72,000. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
